Equine Leg Wraps

September 8th, 2008 · 3 Comments

My Owner(MO) has noticed that I seem more confident in loping circles when I have leg wraps on. She has observed that I have accidentally interfered with myself in the hind legs several different times, then I limp. It is almost always, right hind hits left hind…then I limp. I interfere more when I lope in the right lead as compared to the left. I will counter canter and cross fire going to the right, but seldom to the left. If I am wrapped, I don’t seem to hurt myself; ie, my stride does not change.

Marilyn3MO’s wrap of choice for my legs in most weather and ground conditions are polo wraps. She has told me that she likes to wrap legs. She is especially conscientious of wrapping my legs when we lope circles in soft/slippery ground. I wear “everyday” colors of yellow and green and “away from home” colors of navy blue and black. Both the Navy and the Black Wraps look stunning on ME. The green color is a bright lime; the yellow clashes with my dun/gray/buckskin color.

MO uses other leg protection on different occasions. At a show or extended ride, I may be wearing a pair of splint boots and bell boots on my front legs. I would have a pair of hind boots to protect my rear legs.

I love the green wraps with the light buckskin. Really eye catching!

Hi Marilyn, I know you only use them for “every day” but I think the green looks very sharp on you. Have you tried purple wraps? I bet that would look nice!

Thank you! I think purple will be one of my new “fall” colors.
