Chore Day

January 24th, 2009 · No Comments

Today was the day for a new big round bale; our hay feeder was almost empty.
The temp was about 10 below with a west wind of 10 - 15 mph. It didn’t feel bad as long as you were out of the wind. I become a wooly mammoth in the winter time, so I’ve been fine.

Winter Head Garb
My Owner(MO) was dressed up real warm. I tell you the first time I saw her like that, I couldn’t tell who it was, except by smell. And she still smells the same.

That Darn Dog, Noley, was wearing a blue wool coat today. I am just a little bit jealous of the attention that Noley receives, but then she’s a little jealous of ME, when MO spends very much time with ME.

Today was an example our normal hay routine. I was tied in the barn, where there’s no wind and I’m out of the way. (Ie, I get special treatment.) MO said that I almost filled up the barn…she said this when she was carrying the pitchfork. She also felt for my ribs, and said something like, “Pus-ee”, that didn’t sound too flattering!

Can Can was tied to the black horse trailer. There is a big, hard drift about 5 feet behind the horse trailer. Being the nice old lady that she is, she stood there as nice as could be. Enter that Darn Dog, Noley, who promptly climbed up on the big, hard drift and put her front legs on Can Can’s rump. I tell you she’s been wanting to ride a horse ever since she saw MO riding ME. Noley hasn’t quite dared to jump up on one of us yet, and I would certainly buck her off. MO knows that and hasn’t encouraged Noley riding either ME or Can Can. Noley thought she was so important today, wearing her fancy blue coat!

The World’s Best Husband(TWBH) put our hay bale in the feeder and cleaned some of the snow out of our corral. It made ME feel so good to have new hay and less snow, that I ran around the corral and kicked up my heels a few times.

Some days its just good to be a horse!
